Nepal Animal Welfare and Environment Society (NAWES) is a nonprofit organization registered with the District Administration Office of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The organization is dedicated to promoting animal welfare—including domesticated, farmed, and pet animals, as well as fisheries and aquatics—along with environmental conservation and climate change awareness in Nepal. It was established in 2023 by a group of passionate and dedicated animal and environmental advocates. NAWES strives to create a harmonious relationship between humans, animals, and nature through education, advocacy, and direct intervention.
Nepal is rich in biodiversity and has a deep cultural connection with animals. However, many animals face negligence, exploitation, and suffering due to a lack of awareness, insufficient resources for their protection, and the absence of specific government policies to safeguard them. NAWES was founded with the mission of addressing these challenges by promoting ethical treatment, sustainable conservation practices, and supporting the government in developing favorable policies that safeguard animal welfare, ensure environmental sustainability, and address climate change-related issues.
Our organization works across multiple sectors, including animal rescue, rehabilitation, and advocacy for animal welfare, covering domesticated, farmed, and wild animals. Additionally, we address emerging issues related to environmental degradation, such as deforestation, pollution, and climate change. NAWES seeks to implement long-term solutions that benefit both animals and ecosystems by collaborating with local, provincial, and federal governments, as well as national and international partners and local communities.
Through public awareness campaigns, policy advocacy, and grassroots initiatives, we aim to foster a society where animals are treated with compassion and ecosystems are protected and conserved for future generations. NAWES remains committed to creating impactful change through evidence-based approaches and community-driven solutions.
