Nepal Animal Welfare and Environment Society (NAWES) is a nonprofit organization registered with the District Administration Office of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The organization is dedicated to promoting animal welfare—including domesticated, farmed, and pet animals, as well as fisheries and aquatics—along with environmental conservation and climate change awareness in Nepal. It was established in 2022 by a group of passionate and dedicated animal and environmental advocates. NAWES strives to create a harmonious relationship between humans, animals, and nature through education, advocacy, and direct intervention.

Objectives of Nepal Animal Welfare and Environment Society (NAWES)

Promote Animal Welfare:

  • Advocate for ethical treatment and humane policies for all animals, including domesticated, farmed, and wild animals.
  • Support rescue, rehabilitation, and care initiatives to reduce animal suffering.
  • Raise awareness about responsible pet ownership and farmed animal welfare.

Advance Environmental Conservation and Address Climate Change Challenges

  • Work with government bodies at local, provincial, and federal levels to develop and implement policies that protect animals and the environment.
  • Advocate for stronger legal frameworks to prevent animal cruelty and environmental harm.
  • Collaborate with government and stakeholders to integrate climate action into national policies.
  • Engage in evidence-based research to support policy recommendations.

Community Engagement and Education:

  • Conduct awareness campaigns to educate the public, including school-aged children, on animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
  • Empower local communities with knowledge and tools to foster compassionate and sustainable practices.
  • Build capacity among stakeholders through training programs and workshops.

Strengthen Collaboration and Partnerships:

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with national and international organizations to amplify impact.
  • Engage with research institutions, donors, and policymakers to drive evidence-based advocacy.
  • Facilitate cross-sector collaboration to develop holistic solutions for animal welfare and environmental conservation.
